Retrograde
Retrograde motion is the apparent backward motion of a planet from the viewpoint of Earth. In a natal chart, it often points to a more inward way of living that planet's function.
How to read it in a chart
A retrograde planet is not broken. Its function often turns inward, asks for revision, and develops at a more personal rhythm. Retrograde Mercury may think nonlinearly, retrograde Venus may take longer to form values and taste, and retrograde Saturn may internalize responsibility.
Read the planet, sign, house, and aspects. The house shows where the person returns to the topic again and again. Aspects show what shapes the inward turn: anxiety, analytic talent, delay, or a need to verify things independently.
Common mistake
The mistake is to fear retrograde motion as a bad sign. In a natal chart it is not a prohibition; it is a different rhythm. Often the person becomes stronger in the planet's theme because they cannot live it automatically.
In forecasting, retrograde periods often describe return, revision, rework, and the need not to rush final decisions.
