A ruler is a planet that rules a sign or house. Rulers connect different parts of the chart into one system.

How to read it in a chart

A ruler shows where the energy of a sign or house goes. If Aries is on the cusp of the second house, Mars rules the second house. Money, value, and self-worth will therefore be connected with the house and aspects of Mars.

This is one of the main ways to connect a chart into a system. The house describes the life area, the sign on the cusp describes style, and the ruler shows which other part of the chart carries the topic. Sometimes the answer to a house question is not in that house, but where its ruler is placed.

Common mistake

A common mistake is to read a house only by the sign on its cusp. The seventh house in Aquarius is not simply "free relationships." You need to read Uranus and Saturn: where they are, how they are aspected, and how mature the partnership theme becomes.
